Song of the Decade: LCD Soundsystem – All My Friends

Perhaps another predictable choice but this song is seven minutes and thirty-seven seconds of pure genius. Everything from the first minute or so build up to the wonderful vocals delivered by James Murphy is just music genius. It is hard to find a song that evokes as much pleasure that ‘All My Friends’ delivers in my ears.

Hearing the song live was absolutely incredible and a memory that will stay with me beyond the grave. It is just one of those songs where you stand there and for those seven minutes or so you are just absorbed by the music, nothing around you even matters. When I listen to it, it gives me so much great feeling right deep down in my stomach. It is the song that can instantly make me feel happy, on top of the world.

Despite the subject matter, it just reminds me of a great live experience where everything just seemed so perfect and the hairs on the back of my neck not just stood up, they jumped up.

There have been an awful lot of really sensational songs from the past ten years but none that quite grip me like ‘All My Friends’, it is a sign of a truly great song that you do not even notice the seven minutes and thirty-seven seconds that pass. Once they have passed you immediately want to go back for some more. Those are the types of things that make music wonderful, thank you James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem.
