Albums of 2009 Part Three

3. Wild Beasts – Two Dancers

The top three was so difficult to pick and really all three are interchangeable with each other, some weeks it changes for me. This week Wild Beasts sensational record ‘Two Dancers’ sits at number three. Following up from their debut ‘Limbo Panto’ Wild Beasts released one of the most intriguing albums of 2009. The second album is usually described as “the difficult second album”, this was certainly not the case for Wild Beasts who in fact provided a sophomore album to rival any other I can think of.

‘Two Dancers’ has everything ‘Limo Panto’ produced and just so much more, every song is simply beautiful. Of course ‘Hooting and Howling’, ‘All The Kings Men’ and ‘We Still Got The Taste Dancin’ On Our Tongues’ are all fantastic singles but the album is full of singles.

‘The Fun Powder Plot’ is an irresistible track and opens the album with some introduction. From that moment on you just know it is going to be a enthralling listen. Each song is intricate as the next and lyrically it is one of the most ambiguous records of recent times.

‘This Is Our Lot’ is my personal favourite from the album; it has everything in its locker that is right with music. A lovely introduction and build up that flows impeccably into some stunning vocals, the guitar work is exquisite and it just sums up the album in four and a half minutes. Final track ‘The Empty Nest’ leaves you filling fulfilled but at the same time wanting more, which every great album should do.
