10 for 2010: Part Five – Best Coast

Best Coast is made up of Bethany Cosentino (ex-Pocahaunted) and her friend Bobb Bruno. In her own words Bethany writes songs about, “summer and the sun and the ocean and being a lazy creep”. That we can expect, “drums, beach boys bass lines and other amazing things”.
‘Sun Was High (So Was I)’ is a delightful track that is fit for any summers day. ‘Over The Ocean’ is a simple but awesome lo-fi track about planes and oceans, so when she says that she writes songs about summer, sun and the ocean she is telling the truth.
Oh yeah and of course she writes songs about love and boys, ‘So Gone’ and ‘That’s The Way Boys Are’ come to mind. Influenced by some of the 60s sounds like The Beach Boys, The Byrds, The Velvet Underground, The Monkees etc Best Coast take all the best bits of those bands and add their lo-fi sound to create a lovely sound.
With songs like ‘When I’m With You’, ‘Make You Mine’ and ‘Something In The Way’ Best Coast have the songs already to be a major act of 2010. They are touring the UK in May playing London shows including Camden Crawl, White Heat, Old Blue Last. Best Coast will be appearing up and down the country in the following towns: Bristol, Southampton, Oxford, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Brighton, Leeds and Birmingham, finishing the month by playing Barcelona’s Primavera Festival.
Best Coast’s irresistible lo-fi dreamy sounds are enough to make anyone go weak at the knees and I fully expect them to be big in 2010.
